100bn barrels of oil under gatwick
What's all this about then?

Any experts on here?

Who would technically own it?

Theoretically if you lived locally and some of it was under your garden or whatever could you in theory charge some cunt millions of pounds before they could drill it out?

Will America invade us now?

Discuss.

Interesting...I thought...

For fracking - 'it should be ok as long as...'
Against - 1 major fuck up and it's goodnight for a regional ecosystem...
I wonder where the first internationally acknowledged disaster will be...
It's in the ground for a reason and that isn't so we can release all the methane to make the sky a bit greener or bluer... More likely our lungs a bit burnier...

To the original post, what this is all about is a bit of news flow to make sure that the companies involved in the drilling of this well last year see their share price go up. There's a little club of them , all punting in a few grand and making it multiply quite quickly, they'll have all cashed out soon, and the story will be brought up again this time next year, you'll all come up with same questions too, and they'll be making a few bob again.

Or you can assess the risks of continuing to send billions to Russia or Saudi Arabia.

Re: 100bn barrels of oil under gatwick
The Infrastructure Bill allows fracking under your home without notification or compensation of any kind, below a depth of 1km, I think. Horizontal fracking is then possible from away from your property maybe 2km (the well head) but leaving you with all the remnants and ramifications. One aquifer in the U.K. may provide drinking water for a large percentage of the population due to pop. density, hence the concern / alarm. Do you trust the Govt. to monitor the companies? Once an incident occurs there's no cleaning up possible...
In the U.S. the Oil & Gas companies have an injunction on giving information on frack fluid content, whether that would be the same here, presumably it may. Trade secret and all that - or freedom from prosecution for environmental damage maybe...
So many aren't against it just for something to do in their spare time...
How many barrels of oil in the wind, sun, water.etc.?
Probably...

Not really, they'll just be working out ways that they can get the money for it to be handed over to them by miliband after the next election.
